Call for emergency aid continues in Myanmar.

Nearly four weeks after the devastating cyclone Nargis, the need remains for urgent assistance to the people of Myanmar, formerly Burma.
According to a statement received by Zenit, the people of Myanmar continue to suffer shortages of basic necessities following the natural disaster of May 2 - 3, which caused widespread death and destruction.
Survivors of the affected regions face a daily struggle to find drinking water, food, shelter and medical care, with very limited means.

Myanmar is a predominantly Buddhist country of 50 million people, with 635 thousand Catholics who live their faith in relative freedom.

The local church has already managed to reach about 25 thousand people in its aid effort, providing food, shelter and drinking water, as well as offering psychological and spiritual support.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon says its urgent focus should still be on saving lives.
