Coffee with Fr. Tom, May 1, 2020

Fr.ThomasWelbers St. Joseph the Worker, most probably a construction laborer in the building of the prominent Judaeo-Greco-Roman city of Sepphoris about 5-6 miles from Nazareth, which was taking place during Jesus' youth. Puts a whole new dimension to his work as "tekton", which is translated as "carpenter" but its meaning is really broader than that. "Tekton" is better understood as any sort of craftsman whose labor might be valuable in a building project. This also implies that the likely cause of his may have been in a construction accident, which was very common in those days. This all means that present-day injustices in the labor situation would have many similarities to those of his day, making him a fitting patron for present-day laborers at the mercy of "big business." He had first-hand experience with that. (Note that the sound quality is very choppy in the last two minutes, beginning at 24:08.)
