IVE Commissioner Is Running Out of Patience

Cardinal Santos Abril, Francis’ commissioner for the Institute of the Incarnate Word (IVE), has denounced a “shadow government,” ReligionDigital.org

• The founder of the IVE, Father Carlos Buela was separated from the Institute because of homosexual abuses although an official sentence has never been pronounced.

• Santos "loses patience" with the IVE, he wrote on October 5 to the former Superior General, Father Gustavo Nieto, accusing him of forming a "shadow government."

• Nieto allegedly continues to act as superior and bypasses Santos’ authority.

• Nieto visited Brazil, where he was presented as Superior General and in charge of sending IVE missionaries.

• In Argentina he donated a painting of Saint Louis to San Luis Diocese.

• His travels and activities were paid for by a bank account whose existence was kept secret until recently.

• Behind Santos' back, the provincial superiors met in Spain in July and are organising a pilgrimage to France in October for the anniversary of Father Buela's ordination.
