Florida Abortion Rule Requiring 24-Hour Wait Faces Lawsuit Challenge.

wochitnews on Jun 11, 2015 Two groups sued the state of Florida on Thursday. They are seeking to stop a mandatory 24-hour waiting period for abortions from taking effect. The groups argue that it imposes an unnecessary burden on women seeking to end their pregnancies. The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida and the Center for Reproductive Rights filed the suit one day after Republican governor Rick Scott signed the bill into law. They argue that the law, which is to take effect on July 1st, violates the right to privacy guaranteed in the state constitution by interfering with their right to undergo the procedure. Scott defended the law.
Speaking through a spokeswoman, he said that as a parent and a grandparent, the sanctity of life is important to him, and the 24 hour waiting period is an important step to protecting life.
