Same Ideas in Francis and Leo XIV – Cardinal Czernin

Cardinal Michael Czerny SJ, 79, told the Substack.com account The Pillar (29 September) in an interview full of weak arguments and waffle that he sees Leo XIV in continuity with Francis.

The cardinal said: 'Maybe there is a difference along the lines of implicit and explicit. Perhaps there is also a difference in vocabulary and the precise words used, but if you look for the same idea in Francis, you will find it immediately.'

When asked about green propaganda ('integral ecology'), the cardinal replied: 'We are learning. We’re learning practically. We’re learning spiritually. And I’m happy to say that we’re also learning liturgically. We now have a new Mass for the care of creation. We now have a specific Mass for this aspect of the Church’s mission.”

Regarding all of the Church's institutions, such as parishes, schools, universities and hospitals, Cardinal Czerny concludes: "The Church, if you want to use the expression, is much, much greener than it was before."

Asked about the serious problems caused by illegal mass migration, Cardinal Czerny essentially referred to the state: "Governments are responsible for housing, for crime. If a government cannot manage housing or crime sufficiently to be able to welcome migrants, it’s a government problem."

Concerning the Church, Cardinal Czerny said that the parish is "an extraordinary place of welcome" and "a place of protection".
