Incredible tornado in the Netherlands! At least one person died as a result of a tornado that swept through the Dutch coastal city. Dramatic photos and footage shared on social media showed a "waterspout" near the town of Zieriksee, about 44 miles southwest of Rotterdam, as the tornado circled the sky leaving a devastating trail.
The car was captured surrounded by debris after a tree fell on it, scattering tiles and furniture in a whirlwind through the streets.
“The damage is significant on several streets in Zieriksee. In addition to flying roof tiles and fallen trees, roofs were blown off four houses.”
The local housing association said 20 rented houses are temporarily uninhabitable due to the storm and authorities are taking steps to accommodate residents. One of the victims was a worker who was doing repairs in one of the apartments.
Emergency services are asking people to stay away from the site so as not to interfere with the work of police and firefighters, and because of the danger of falling tiles and branches.
Many people have come to the area to watch or try to help the emergency services who are currently trying to assess the extent of the damage.
The area is currently cordoned off and members of the public have been urged to stay away from the scene and provide crews with a place to work.
"Unfortunately, there is one fatality as a result of the hurricane," the statement said.
“In addition, according to the first assessment, about 10 wounded.”
“Many people come to the area to watch or help, it interferes with emergency services and can be dangerous due to hanging branches, shingles, etc.”
According to the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute, the wind speed during the storm passing through the country was about 75 km per hour. Cleaning has begun in the seaside town of just over 10,000 people.
Residents affected by the tornado are asked to report to the mayor's office.
According to the weather bureau, tornadoes are rare in the Netherlands, mostly in the summer.
