We now have an official date for the canonization of Archbishop Oscar Romero, and Blessed Pope Paul 6th. The Pope announced on Saturday that both men along with six others, will be proclaimed saints on Sunday October 14th during the Synod of Bishops on Young People. Pope Paul 6th had the task of closing the Second Vatican Council in 1965. Born Giovanni Battista Montini in 1897, he died after being pope for 15 years on August 6th 1978.
Archbishop Oscar Romero, was shot dead on March 24th 1980 as he was saying Mass in El Salvador. As archbishop, he had became the outspoken voice for the poor of his country, who were caught up in a conflict between the military government and guerilla groups that claimed tens of thousands of civilian lives.
