Notice that there's no concern for her daughter's soul. Of course, she married a Muslim so one wonders if the author cared for her own either. But it seems her maternal instinct has manifested in her gut reaction.
Maybe I shouldn’t be but I’m shocked she found a priest who agreed to marry them… unless she didn’t and just had a Muslim or state marriage.
It’s crazy that she is among those Catholics who consider themselves “pretty religious” nowadays.
