Chile: Hatred Against the Church Continues

In the early hours of 11 June, the recently rebuilt San Francisco chapel in Radalco, Curacautín, in Chile's Araucanía region, was burned down by anti-Church criminals.

Gunshots or loud noises were heard during the attack. Banners supporting Víctor Queipul, a Mapuche from Temucuicui, were found at the scene.

Queipul was involved in disturbances during a protest in Temuco on Tuesday, 10 June. He assaulted two police officers during the demonstration, which demanded special measures for Mapuche prisoners in Angol prison.

He was then transferred to Concepción while charges were brought against him, and was later released.

The destroyed chapel belonged to the San Pedro parish in the Diocese of Temuco. It had recently been rebuilt after being destroyed in an attack in August 2023.
