''Will your children and grandchildren soon be taught in school to pledge allegiance to "One World under Gaia" (the goddess of Nature)? Will they be taught that the Christian world view is not in harmony with Nature because it promotes exploitation of, and harm to, Mother Earth? The United Nations World Summit on Sustainable Development (also known as Earth Summit II), held in Johannesberg, South Africa Sept. 2-11, 2002, opened with a welcoming ceremony with children forming a human Tower of Babel and singing beneath a huge globe. Following in the footsteps of the UN's 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Earth Summit II was steeped with New Age rhetoric and occult imagery. The Earth Charter, presented to the world as the "new Ten Commandments," is being advanced by the UN as the basis for a neo-pagan, earth-centered "spirituality."
The Earth Charter Initiative has now embarked upon an aggressive worldwide propaganda and proselytizing campaign. On September 28th, Earth Charter Community Summits were held in a number of U.S. cities to kick off a new phase of promotion.
Certainly Christians are called to be good stewards of God's creation, but also, Christians must be leery of zealots who seek to replace God's Word with creeds of mere human origin in an effort to create a NEW god deserving of worship -- "Mother Earth."

The New American is the documentation of how these "earth summits" are being used as a vehicle to destroy historic Christianity and replace it with a humanist religion. This article demonstrates that this Earth Charter signed in late 2002 is a blatant effort to codify this new religion, thus Christians can easily "see through" this thinly veiled effort to subvert God. Unfortunately, not all such efforts to establish this new religion are so blatant. The more subtle form of indoctrination to this type of humanist earth worship (which claims to be Christian) is rampant in mainline churches in the U.S.
It is suggested that you set aside any bias against the author of this linked article, as some would label a "radical right wing" journalist, and make an effort to understand the humanist objective of the Earth Charter. Then, if you see aspects of this humanist religion creeping into your own church, you'll recognize it for what it is.
