Peruvian Bishop Has Resigned to Get Married
He left his diocese and the priesthood because he had fallen in love with a woman of his age and had decided to “leave everything” for her.
On 1 July 2024, Pope Francis accepted Bishop Nann's resignation as prelate of Caravelí, Peru, for "health reasons".
Nann himself attributed his resignation to stress, high blood pressure, and a decline in his mental and physical health. He said he would spend time in his native Germany to recover and receive support from his family.
Born in Breisach, Germany, in 1960, Nann was ordained as a priest in the Freiburg diocese in 1987. He was a fellow student of Archbishop Georg Gänswein. Following missionary work in Peru, Pope Francis appointed him bishop of Caravelí in 2017. He belonged to the anti-Catholic wing of the Peruvian bishops.
