The official itinerary for Pope Benedict XVI's visit to Cyprus June 4 to 6 June has published in recent days by the Vatican press office.
The Holy Father arrives at 14:00 Friday, June 4 in Paphos, one of the steps of Paul's first missionary journey with Barnabas, a native island. After the welcome ceremony, the Pope will move to the Church of Agia Kyriaki Chrysopolitissa. At that spot, in the archaeological surroundings of the church itself, the Pope will participate in an ecumenical service and will deliver an address.

Following this the Holy Father will reach the capital Nicosia, where Benedict XVI will stay at the Apostolic Nuncio, adjacent to the parish church of the Holy Cross, which is managed by the friars of the Custos of the Holy Land and occupies a wing of the adjacent Franciscan monastery. Preparations and renovations have been taking place for months.

On the morning of Saturday, June 5, a courtesy visit to President of the Republic of Cyprus Dimitris Christofiasis scheduled, followed by a meeting with the Catholic community of Cyprus in the Sports Field of St. Maroun Elementary School in Nicosia.

In the late morning of June 5 the Pope will arrive at the headquarters of the Orthodox Archbishopric for the courtesy visit to His Beatitude Chrysostomos II, Archbishop of Cyprus who will host the Pope for lunch.

The day will end with the celebration of Holy Mass to be held at 17.30 in the Latin parish Church of the Holy Cross in Nicosia and will be attended by priests, religious, deacons, catechists and members of ecclesial movements of Cyprus.

Sunday, June 6, also in Nicosia, the Pope will celebrate Mass in honor of the publication of the 'Instrumentum Laboris" of the Synod of Bishops' Special Assembly for the Middle East. Lunch at 1pm in the Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Orthodox patriarchs and bishops gathered in Cyprus for the occasion. In the afternoon before heading to Larnaca airport and departing for Rome, Benedict XVI will stop for prayer in the Maronite cathedral.

An ecumenical journey in the heart of the eastern Mediterranean, to meet the small Church of Cyprus and, through it, all the Eastern Churches that will be part of the next Synod in October. This will be the special theme of apostolic visit to Cyprus that Benedict XVI will make in less than two weeks.
