Pope Francis appoints Bishop Hartmayer as the new the Archbishop of Atlanta
Francis has appointed Bishop Gregory J. Hartmayer of Savannah, Georgia, as the new Archbishop of Atlanta. He succeeds Archbishop Wilton Gregory who was appointed to Washington D.C. last year.
A conventual Franciscan who had been in Savannah since 2011, Hartmayer is a former guidance counselor and school principal who is originally from New York.
