It is necessary to advance cultural change "to promote a culture of life and society on a human scale, " in a society which seeks to relativize and secularize all aspects of life. The Pope said yhis in his speech on Sunday afternoon at the second vespers recited in the cathedral of Zagreb, the penultimate appointment of his apostolic visit to Croatia. Citing blessed Alojzije Stepinac, the Archbishop of Zagreb martyred during the comunist regime of Yugoslavia and buried in the cathedral, Benedict XVI recalled that "one of the greatest evils of our time is mediocrity in matters of faith. Either we are Catholics or we are not. If we are, this must be manifested in every aspect of our lives."
