Monsignor Saunders Arrested

Police in Western Australia arrested Monsignor Christopher Saunders, 72, the former Bishop of Broome, at his home on Wednesday.

Saunders holds theological positions similar to those of Francis.

He is charged with more than 19 counts of homosexual abuse - 2 counts of rape, 14 counts of sexual assault and 3 counts of abusing a 16-18 year old from a position of authority. Monsignor Saunders was released on bail.

A canonical investigation conducted by church authorities found allegations of sexual misconduct against four young men of Aboriginal origin, some of them teenagers but all over the age of 18.
