Irish Bishop Warns Against Williamson's Group

Bishop Donal McKeown of Derry, Ireland, has warned the faithful about "SSPX Resistance Ireland. The splinter group is linked to the late Bishop Richard Williamson (1940-2025) and apparently one of the several sect bishops he consecrated, Monsignor Giacomo Ballini for Ireland.

Bishop McKeown sent a circular to parishioners in mid-March, but didn't name the priest working in his diocese:

"The priests of SSPX Resistance Ireland are administering the sacraments, but they are doing so illegally - that is, without the necessary faculties and the approval of the Church," Bishop McKeown wrote: "I urge all the faithful to remain steadfast in communion with the Church, united with the Holy Father and the bishops who are in full communion with him."

Speaking to Rte.ie (March 30), Bishop McKeown added that he had been contacted by an English diocese that had received information that a defrocked priest who was a member of SSPX Resistance Ireland may be working in the area of his diocese.
