German Bishop Urges Catechism "Change": Homosexual Sin Not a Sin
“A new way of thinking is needed, reflected in Church teaching and the Catechism of the Catholic Church,” he said in Herder Thema, as reported by Katholisch.de (June 24).
Monsignor Timmerevers cited an unnamed "scientist" to explain the cause of homosexuality: “There is a certain age—he mentioned 13 to 16—when orientation becomes fixed. You can’t change that. It’s a fact.” [Does the same apply to pedophiles?]
The bishop does "not understand" under which conditions the Church can speak of serious sin concerning homosexuality - "if at all". He finds it difficult when the immediate response to gender ideology is: "That's ideology."
The bishop's problem is not God and his revelation but the global church: “My personal contacts have shown me how differently some African countries [allegedly] view this issue.”
He asks, “How can one magisterium hold it all together? How can Church teaching evolve to incorporate new scientific insights (sic) without ignoring cultural contexts?”
