St. Edward the Confessor - October 13

St. Edward, King and Confessor...He was King of England from 1042 to 1066, was known as the Confessor to distinguish him from his uncle Edward the Martyr. He restored Westminster Abbey, was devout, much addicted to giving alms, was affable and peace-loving. His popularity spread throughout the kingdom soon after the Norman conquest, and it was the Norman dynasty which secured his canonization by Alexander III in 1611. Innocent XI inserted his name in the Roman calendar. October 13 is the anniversary of the translation of his relics which are stilled preserved at Westminster Abbey.
