Former German "Resistance" Monastery Rejoins FSSPX
The monastery stands on the ruins of a Premonstratensian monastery founded in 1131, which was secularized in 1802 during the Napoleonic turmoil.
In 2008, the FSSPX purchased the site for the French Benedictines of Bellaigue.
Faced with the difficulties of the lengthy restoration work, a site manager told Gloria.tv years ago: "It would be easier to have a meadow with nothing on it".
The German Benedictine Monastery was finally founded in 2017.
Two years later, the Benedictines in Bellaigue, including its monastery in Germany, severed their ties with the FSSPX. This probably had a fatal effect on vocations and donations.
However, on February 2, 2025, the German monastery of Reichenstein broke off relations with Bellaigue and established contact with the FSSPX.
The reason given for this decision by Reichenstein monastery was the "serious internal problems in the monastery of Notre-Dame de Bellaigue".
The monks of Reichenstein also distanced themselves from the priestly ordinations of the so-called resistance bishops.
