There Are No Disagreements Between the Pope and I Says Cardinal Muller - Perspectives Daily.
saltandlighttv on Jul 4, 2017 Let’s begin in Rome today with a quick summary of the Pope’s message after his weekly recital of the Sunday Angelus. After praying the midday prayer with those gathered in St. Peter’s Square, the Pope noted that July 5th is the feast of Venezuela’s independence and he expressed his love and closeness to the families that have lost children in the recent violence that plague that country.
He said that he’s praying so that violence is brought to an end and a peaceful and democratic solution is found to the crisis. Let us all pray to Our Lady of Coromoto for Venezuela for her intersession. I wish you all a good Sunday, the Pope said. Please, don't forget to pray for me. Have a good lunch and see you soon!
There was some big changes in the Roman Curia over the weekend as the Vatican announced on July 1st, that the Pope has chosen Spanish Archbishop Luis Ladaria, as the new Prefect of the Congregation of the Doctrine of Faith. Archbishop Ladaria, a Jesuit theologian, was appointed secretary of the congregation in 2008 by Pope Benedict and takes office for the next 5 years, succeeding Cardinal Ger-hard Muller, who’s term ended on July 2.
In a published Vatican statement issued but the Holy See Press Office, "The Holy Father thanked the cardinal at the conclusion of his appointment" . At the moment no new position has been announced for the Cardinal who, at age 69, is still more than 5 years away from the normal retirement age of a bishop.
Some local media is suggesting that Cardinal Muller was let go because he insisted that divorced and civilly remarried Catholics could not receive Communion. However the Cardinal told new agencies that: "There were no disagreements between the Pope and I, and that there’s certainly no dispute over "Amoris Laetitia,". The cardinal also said that the Pope wanted in general, to limit the term of office to five years and he just happened to be the first person to which the new standard applied.
The Prefect of the doctrinal congregation, is responsible for promoting the correct interpretation of Catholic doctrine and theology. It is one of the most important offices of the Roman Curia and, is also responsible for conducting investigations into allegations of clergy abuse. Now I should also mention that Cardinal Muller was recently interviewed on Salt and Light’s marque TV show: WITNESS. You can watch the interview below.
Lets go to Greece now, where the Apostolic Nunciature of Greece has confirmed that the Pope has send $50,000 euros in aid for victims of the June 12th earthquake on the Greek island of Lesbos. The donation comes a few days after the Pope received a full report on the extent of the damage on the island, and shows the Pope's closeness to the people of that island who have suffered the consequences of the earthquake regardless of their religion. Most of those who will benefit are Orthodox faithful with only 50 Catholics on the island.
The June 12th earthquake measuring 6.3 on the scale hit the western coast of Turkey and the Greek island of Lesbos killing one person and displacing approximately 800 others.
Its Canada’s 150th anniversary and for the next year, we Canadians celebrate the sesquicentennial anniversary of Canadian Confederation. I had the opportunity to chat with Cardinal Gerald Lacroix, the Archbishop of Quebec, about how catholic church in Quebec is participating in this great Canadian milestone celebration.
