3 nurses martyred during Spanish Civil War declared blessed Three Red Cross volunteer nurses who were martyred for the faith during the Spanish Civil War were beatified in Spain on Saturday, May 29. Laywomen Pilar Gullón, Olga Monteserín and Octavia Iglesias were executed by the Republican militia on Oct. 28, 1936, near Astorga in Spain. The trio was attending to the wounded on both sides when they were captured by Republican militia. The beatification of the martyrs took place at the Astorga Cathedral.
