Bobovac is the most well known and fortified city of medieval Bosnia & Herzegovina. It is located near today's Vares.
The city was built during the reign of ban Stephen II Kotromanic and was first mentioned in a document dating from 1349. It shared the role of seat of the rulers of Bosnia with Kraljeva Sutjeska, however Bobovac was much better fortified.
Bobovac contained the crown jewels of Bosnia as well as being the burial site for a few of the kings of Bosnia. These were Stjepan Ostojic, Tvrtko II Kotromanic & Stjepan Tomas.
Bobovac is now a protected cultural site.
