Priest Becomes Governor

Father Hyacinth Lorem Alia, very popular for his healing and liberation Eucharists, has been elected governor of Benue State, Nigeria (MondoEMissione.it, June 6). His bishop suspended him a year ago for entering the electoral campaign, but Alia will return to his diocese once he leaves office. The middle class and the youth voted en masse for him, who continues to dress as a priest. Before Alia, Father Moses Orshio Adasu was elected Benue governor in 1992, but was deposed by the military in November 1993.
