Dublin diocese is an unhappy place
I have been in Dublin for past two weeks and had opportunities to speak with many priests and laity about situation of Church in Dublin and elsewhere.
I was shocked to see the change in the priests. Formerly I knew them to be cheerful (always laughter in their presence); optimistic and loyal and willingly obedient to their Ordinary. Now I found them dismal, disillusioned and distressed, and very few with a good word to say about the bishops., particularly one who seems to be more interested in trying to ensure that he is "a great guy" in the eyes of the media.
Apparently the Feudal Bishop or Absolute Monarch now determines that priests are appointed to run a parish for nine years but only as administrator. The appointment of Parish Priests seems to be a thing of the past.
