Rupnik Refuses Responsibility – Jesuits Offer Compensation to Victims

The Jesuits are offering reparations to some 20 women who have publicly said that they were sexually, psychologically, and spiritually abused by the Slovenian priest Marko Rupnik.

Rupnik has been protected by Pope Francis, who still has his artworks in the private rooms. The infamous icons - known for their dark, strange eyes - were also painted by Rupnik while he was naked and sexually excited.

On Tuesday, the superior of the Jesuits in Rome, Fr. Johan Verschueren, revealed that the Jesuits had offered Rupnik "to publicly take responsibility for his actions, to repent, to ask for forgiveness and to begin a path of purification and therapy."

But Rupnik only showed "stubbornly refused" to accept this opportunity.

Only then was Rupnik expelled from the Jesuits.

Regarding the victims, Father Verschueren offers reparations to the women. He acknowledged the abuse they endured and "the lack of listening and justice over many years."

Father Verschueren believes in reconciliation, "provided that there is also a path of truth and recognition on our part".
