FarodiRoma's Half-Truth on Vatican Financial Crimes
While technically correct, the article omits a key fact: on 24 December, Palombella was convicted of abuse of office (abuso d'ufficio) and self-laundering (autoriciclaggio) - serious financial crimes.
The verdict states that Palombella used his position to organise concerts for private companies and channelled the profits into an Italian bank account accessible only to him and the choir's former manager, Michelangelo Nardella. These funds - used for personal expenses - amounted to approximately €127,000.
Palombella was sentenced to three years and two months in prison, fined €9,000 and temporarily banned from holding public office. He and Nardella were also ordered to repay the money.
FarodiRoma's selective reporting may not be false, but it certainly does not tell the whole story.
