Fist of all, the medal was originally designed and commissioned in 1880 by the Monks of Monte Cassino Abbey, to mark the 1400th anniversary of the birth of St. Benedict.

Second, the design of this medal was produced at St. Martin's Archabbey, Beuron, Germany, at the request of the prior of Montecassino, Rev. Boniface Krug OSB (1838-1909). Prior Boniface was a native of Baltimore and originally a monk of St. Vincent Archabbey, Latrobe, Pennsylvania, until he was chosen to become prior and latter archabbot of Montecassino.

Third, the Catholic Church's Benedictine monasteries have made use of this medal decades before Vatican II's modernism. In fact, the famous Benedictine monk Dom Prosper Guéranger wrote a French book called "The Medal or Cross of St. Benedict: Its Origin, Meaning and Privileges", and he explicitly promotes the new design of 1880 (see here: The medal or cross of St. Benedict: its origin, meaning, and privileges; from the French. Edited ... by a monk of the English Benedictine Congregation of ... ).

And finally, Pope Pius IX himself, a year before he died, wrote a decree approving the works of the new medal saying:

“Whereas the solemn centenary in honour of St. Benedict is to be celebrated in the coming year 1880... our beloved son, Nicholaus d'Orgenmont, Abbot Ordinary of Monte Cassino, has, after wholesome counsel, caused the holy and ancient medal of St. Benedict to be restruck, in order to perpetuate the memory of that solemnity, and of the piety of the faithful, and has likewise earnestly besought us to enrich the same with new indulgences... trust in the mercy of Almighty God, and relying on the authority of his blessed Apostles SS. Peter and Paul, to each and all of the faithful of Christ, of both sexes, who shall wear that holy medal given to them by the Abbot Ordinary of Monte Cassino... This decree shall hold good, notwithstanding whatsoever may be done contrary to its tenor. For present and future times tehse letters shall be of effect...”

I believe that whoever wrote that article and made that video should take it down, and if he be a Catholic, should confess it. I believe it's scandalous and a mortal sin because of the seriousness of such accusations (e.g. hinting to Masonic symbolism, saying it's a "false" medal and created by "enemies of the Catholic Church", etc) and secondly, because these unfounded speculations and false statements were exposed to 5,000+ people in a video and however many that came across this article.
