Australian Archbishop Sees "Second Spring"

The Sydney Archdiocese welcomed a record 384 converts at Easter, marking a 30% increase on the previous year.

In a 30 May address to Catholic business leaders [and thus potential donors], Archbishop Anthony Fisher spoke of a "second spring", reports the archdiocesan newspaper CatholicWeekly.com.au (3 June): "It might be too early to declare winter now past, but flowers have appeared in our. There are signs of hope."

He explained that the new Catholics are individuals from diverse backgrounds who are encountering the faith for the first time and finding it deeply compelling, not just people raised Catholic who are returning. He believes that there is a genuine hunger for spiritual meaning in an increasingly fragmented world.

There is allegedly an increasing attendance at Eucharists across the Archdiocese, Archbishop Fisher said, joking: "I might have to get a bigger cathedral."

Enrolment at allegedly "Catholic" schools is the highest it has ever been and continues to grow.

It is certainly a great wonder of Our Lord: conversions to the faith despite the Church being taken over by a perverse hierarchy.

My Opinion:
The archdiocesan newspaper sees signs of hope.
After the USCCB stopped public masses in 2020, many Catholics said, "not one penny" to their bishops. Many faithful have forgot and forgiven. I still feel the "not one penny" strategy is necessary. The laity has survived parish closures caused by the bishops' actions.
Jesus Christ will remain the head of the Catholic Church even if all churches are closed. There is no reason for Catholics to pay for abuse victims or the heretical Modernist church. We still do not know if the new pope will be "obedient" to the Catholic faith. (No sign yet.)
