Adam & Eve Were Historical Persons.
This Sermon was from a daily mass; it was given in response to some parents who called to tell me that their children understood their teacher to have taught them that Adam & Eve were not historical. The children were able to recite the standard protestant liberal diatribe that tells us that all myths are fiction. Since this is commonly taught in the Catholic School system, I myself have encountered it numerous times, I thought it needed a response. This idea betrays a classical misunderstanding of mythic structures common to modernism. I believe that the proper historical position must be presented if we are ever going to have true reform in the Church. The historicity of Adam and Eve goes right to the authority of Scripture, and therefore if eroded leads to an undermining of the entire Judeo-Christian message. We are not speaking about 'Catholic Fundamentalism' which according to Rev. Martin Marty the formost expert on Fundamentalism of all kinds, does not exist in Catholicism, because we as Catholics do not take everything 'literally until absurd'. Rather we wish to properly understand the genre and interpret it accordingly.
We wonder why our churches and schools are empty, when we begin to teach ideas which destroy the faith itself, by attempting to overnaturalize God's Inspired word you need not wonder anymore. Why believe in a faith that has no supernatural claims? Modernism leads to practical of functional agnostacism.

Sadly Enough Rene, I have only put my finger on one problem which has caused the destruction of the faith. Liberalism is a multi tenticled beast that needs to be attacked at each point. I am hoping that by providing a diagnosis of the illness, and ways to return the faith that then maybe we will have people starting to push for a reformation within the church, that returns us to our Tradition.

Our faith is so beautiful, and answers the yearning of all men's hearts, but we have a generation which has been misled on Catholicism, and a libertine faith has replaced the true faith. How do we get people to recognize the real faith, and come to it, when so many priests have told people to do what they want, and have eroded authority so completely that these lost sheep wander.
My pastor recently met with the school leaders after he complained. He celebrated a Mass, the children could not respond properly. They had a projected crucifix in the sanctuary, which he called an abomination. Another Catholic School I taught in, had teachers actively undermining Church teaching. (But they thought they were correct, as one of them once told me "That's not what Fr. Andy Told me." I don't know which Fr. Andy it was a couple were involved in the school. They pushed one priest into a breakdown, and he left the priesthood, because they constantly undermined him. And another was forced out because a layman, who was worth a fortune made it obvious he was not wanted there after 1 year. (And this guy is not that conservative.)
This school also had a program at the local Masonic Lodge, because it was larger than their auditorium. AND WE WONDER WHY OUR SCHOOLS ARE EMPTY. Using a ediface dedicated to the worship of Baphmat, for a Catholic School Function. S A D

This heresy is the most dangerous, because it claims to answer all the questions of the secularist by stripping the Gospel for any supernatural content. The Sacred Volume becomes just a series of harmless stories, that once tamed can be put away in the file cabinet never to bother the conscience of the person again. This removes the moral implications to the Gospel.
A protestant Attorney wrote a wonderful book on alot of this called "the hidden dangers of the Rainbow." Constance Cumby was her name, it is very well written.

Yes. Modernism leads to practical of functional agnostacism. I am a priest of Orthodox Church in Czech republic at Europe and I believe, that Adam and Eve were historical persons. They repented and now they live with Christ our Lord in the heaven.
