Archbishop Argüello Explains to Socialists: Communion Requires Being in God's Grace

The President of the Spanish Bishops' Conference, Bishop Luis Argüello, 71, of Valladolid, Spain, received the Socialist Minister for Equality, Ana Redondo, for about an hour in Añastro on Wednesday.

They discussed, among other things, about the homosexual mayor of Torrecaballeros, who has complained publicly that he cannot receive Communion because he lives in a civil homosexual concubinage.

A few days ago, Ana Redondo, fantasised that "it is unconstitutional to deny communion to homosexuals".

Monsignor Argüello has now explained to her that a Catholic must be in the state of God's grace to receive communion. He added that there was no discrimination because this basic rule applies equally to all Catholics.

Regarding conversion therapy for homosexuals, Bishop Argüello said that such concepts do not fall within the scope of the bishops' pastoral action. Apostolates, such as the group "Transformados", invite conversion to Christ and is offered to all people.
