De nuestra mayor consideración:
En febrero, poco antes de asumir Usted como Arzobispo de Montevideo expresó en una entrevista concedida al Semanario Búsqueda, -entre otras cosas- que bautizará a los hijos de parejas del mismo sexo que así se lo soliciten y aseguró tener amigos homosexuales.
Como organización de defensa de los derechos de personas y familias lesbianas, gays, bisexuales, trans, homoparentales y heterosexuales (en resumen de Derechos Humanos) nos congratulamos al leer sus palabras porque celebramos no solo un cambio en el discurso sino en la acción de la Iglesia Católica tras su investidura como Arzobispo
Como usted señaló al citado semanario, "hoy la iglesia con su moralina está tapando el mensaje que pretende dar". La sociedad ha evolucionado positivamente porque según usted señaló, hoy se comprende algo que antes no se comprendía. También señaló que les ha dicho a muchos chicos LGBT que Dios los ama profundamente más allá de su orientación sexual."
Usted es el primer alto jerarca de la iglesia católica que habla correctamente con términos correctos cuando se refiere a orientación sexual o identidad de género. Señalo en su entrevista con Búsqueda algo muy importante "orientación sexual" dejando de lado los viejos, perimidos e incorrectos términos que hablaban de elección o tendencia.
Nuestra ONG, que cuenta con personería jurídica, quiere expresamente saludar sus manifestaciones, que contrastan diametralmente con las que hasta hace poco tiempo estábamos acostumbrados a escuchar de parte de algunos altos jerarcas de la Iglesia Católica. Si bien nuestra Asociación no profesa religión, no quiere dejar de saludar su iniciativa, porque aún vivimos en un país donde existen casos de discriminación laboral por orientación sexual, donde algunas familias usan violencia física o psicológica contra sus hijos o hijas LGBT únicamente por su orientación sexual o identidad de género, donde aún escuchamos mensajes negativos hacia la comunidad LGBT, persisten casos de bullying por orientación sexual o identidad de género, tanto en instituciones públicas como en privadas. Si bien es cierto que la sociedad avanza a medida que transcurre el tiempo, pero necesitamos de todos y cada uno de los actores sociales para lograrlo. Por eso nos adelantamos a contar con usted para lograrlo, y a la vez dejamos tendida nuestra mano para colaborar en ese sentido. Se trata de la defensa de los más esénciales derechos humanos y el estricto cumplimiento del Artículo 8vo de la Constitución de la República, además de las Leyes antidiscriminación y de matrimonio igualitario, solo por citar algunas.
Desde la alta responsabilidad que ocupa le solicitamos su colaboración y extendemos nuestra mano para brindar la nuestra para lograr, hacer realidad los cambios que en este sentido necesita esta sociedad. La educación es la base de esos logros en DDHH, ya que en la carencia de ella residen todos los perjuicios.
Estamos seguros que con educación y diálogo lograremos una meta de un Uruguay cada vez más integrado y más inclusivo. Más allá de las leyes, todos somos responsables de cumplirla y hacerla cumplir y por tanto para nosotros también es imprescindible la colaboración tanto de la Iglesia Católica como de los demás credos que existen en nuestro territorio.
