Chinese Bishop Celebrates 40th Anniversary of His Priestly Ordination Behind Bars

Bishop Vincent Guo Xijing, 67, of the Diocese of Mindong, Fujian Province, China, celebrated the anniversary of his priestly ordination under house arrest.

Videos sent to AsiaNews.it show him meeting the faithful on January 25th behind the bars of a gate, while the chapel of his residence is sealed.

The bishop shared a cake through the bars. Through the same gate, the faithful pass rosaries and religious objects to be blessed.

In 2018, the Vatican asked Bishop Vincent Guo Xijin of Mindong to step down and make way for State Bishop Zhan Silu. Bishop Guo 'obeyed'. He was demoted to auxiliary bishop of his former diocese.

In May 2020, Monsignor Guo decided to "abandon all offices in the diocese and retire to a life of prayer". He was unable to keep up with the times and the style of "the Church in China" [and the Vatican].

Of course, but there is a positive doubt that his suffering is not as meritorious as a priest's would be - which is what the headline is all about. And it's by no means beside the point ...if a distortion of the truth is repeated enough, it becomes truth ...this is the engineered social conditioning that's enabled and advanced the crisis to where we're at today.
