Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor: pulling strings?
For a long time now I've refrained from reporting stories about Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor and his formidable influence in Rome.
All my sources say the same thing. +Cormac is at loggerheads with the Nuncio to Britain, Archbishop Mennini, and is reluctant to see any more bishops appointed in the conservative mould of Bishop Egan of Portsmouth.
Tonight an unusually good source sent me some messages via direct message on Twitter.
He claims that the Cardinal intervened to block the appointment of a conservative (possibly a Benedictine) to an English bishopric.
