Okay, on to our story, which comes from Saint Louis de Montfort, who wrote in the Secret of the Rosary that, โThe chronicles of Saint Francis tell of a young friar who had the praiseworthy habit of saying the Crown of Our Lady, which is the Rosary, every day before dinner. One day for some reason or other, he did not manage to say it. The dinner bell had already been rung when he asked the Superior to allow him to say it before coming to the table and, having obtained the permission, he withdrew to his cell to pray. After he had been gone a long time, the Superior sent another Friar to fetch him, and was found in his room bathed in a heavenly light facing Our Lady, who had two Angels with her. Beautiful roses kept issuing from his mouth at each Hail Mary; the Angels took them one by one, placing them on Our Ladyโs head, and she accepted them smiling. Finally, two additional friars were sent to find out what happened to the first two and saw the same marvelous scene, but Our Lady did not go away until the whole Rosary had been recited. So, the complete Rosary is a large crown of roses and the Rosary of five decades, which we place on the heads of Jesus and Mary. The rose is the queen of flowers, so the Rosary is the rose of all devotions and, therefore, the most important one.โ โ[And that is how the words rosary was established, because] The word Rosary means โCrown of Roses,โ that is to say that every time people say the Rosary devoutly, they place a crown of one hundred and fifty-three white roses and sixteen red roses upon the heads of Jesus and Mary. But, being heavenly flowers, these roses will never fade or lose their exquisite beauty.โ Wow! I now understand that a rose gives the utmost joy to Our Lady, and the Rosary reminds her of the Annunciation, when she became not only a mother to her child but Mother to God Himself. Itโs everything to her. Okay, back to todayโs storyโฆ. Another miraculous occurrence happened in the vision given to Venerable Sr. Maria de Agreda. She wrote in the City of God that during the Annunciation, the first Hail Mary by the Archangel Saint Gabriel led Our Ladyโs Heart to bleed three droplets of blood. These became the material for the Holy Body of Christ. Sr. Maria also says that Our Lady was elevated to the Beatific Vision in the same instant. And Saint Gertrude later saw in a vision that at the Assumption, the Blessed Trinity said the words Ave Maria and renewed Our Ladyโs joy which she had during the Annunciation when she became the mother of God. A similar truth was given to Saint Gertrude the Great, who one day saw a vision of three streams of divine love from the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, entering Our Ladyโs Heart and moving back to the Heart of Christ. This happened during each Ave chanted in her monastery, filling her with joy. And Saint Gertrude understood this happens every time we say the Hail Mary with devotion. So, it became clear to me that praying the Hail Mary with devotion is how we can make Our Lady happy. Our Lord wills that everyone joins Him in singing her praises. Our Lady even told Saint Mechtilde that nothing pleases her more than the devout recitation of the Hail Mary. So, when you need a favor from Our Lady, like the salvation of wayward family members, you know who and how to ask. And be sure to pray your Aves with devotion to make crowns for Jesus and Mary, because otherwise, as Saint Louis de Montfort would say, the devil is ready to snatch your Hail Marys for his deadly purposes if they are said without true devotion.
