POST #180 HEALTH OF THE WORLD.

Just like our health/strength determines, if and how fast we recover from a colds and accidents, the world’s health/strength determines, if and how fast the world recovers from destructions created by man (the world’s colds and accidents). As the health of the world diminishes the chance of a full recovery is reduced and the time required to recover will increase. The same is true for plants, animals and humans.

Thus it’s much easier for a young fit athlete to recover or even avoid a cold than for someone who is already suffering from other physical handicaps like heart disease or cancer. In much the same way a healthy world can easily recover from one small man-made disaster like a few factories polluting the air.

However, as that athlete gets older and gains weight it becomes harder and harder to stay healthy and it takes longer and longer to recover. Worse yet that athlete almost never recover back to the same health level that he or she was before the accident or major sickness.

Our world is having one man-made disaster after another without ever getting back to the same health level. Thus our world is getting sicker and sicker which plays a role in determining how healthy the plants, animals and humans are that live here in this world.

To get an idea of how long it take the world to recover from a man-made disaster, think about how long it takes to regrow a forest after a forest fire cause by a lit cigarette or an arsonist.

GOD hasn’t given me the money and/or position to do anything about the health of this world. HE has forced me to paddle a bike around town rather than drive a car. HE’S also convinced me to help the trees in our neighborhood to get a little healthier by clearing the weeds and vines that were choking them. I’m also trying to grow shade trees on the South side of our home in an attempt to reduce our home cooling needs. I have no doubt that the cost of electricity is going to continue to rise, so that change is going to save us a lot of money down the road. That’s the kind of investment I can make without spending a lot of money. No one will ever notice the return on that investment because our electric bills won’t come down very fast if at all due to expected price increases of electricity.

I did the same kind of thing when I lived up North. Instead of worrying about shading my home I added about 9 inches of insulation to the attic and 3.5 inches to the basement floor. Plus, we always put up plastic covers over the windows to reduce the draft. I know it made the electric company mad. They kept thinking there was something wrong with my electric meter, so they switched it at least three times in maybe 7 years.

I can’t tell you what to do but every little bit keeps the world from getting that much worse. If enough of us do the right things and we avoid major disasters like the Gulf Oil Spill, we might be able to help the world get a little healthier. We can’t afford a pipeline break, nuclear power plant mistake or any other world pollution. The earth doesn’t recover as fast as you might want to believe and we all suffer because of every one of our destructions of the earth. I believe we would all be healthier if we helped our world to get healthier.

I’ve done my part now the ball’s in your court. Your children, grand-children, and great grand-children … are depending on you. So start doing everything you can to save our planet for future generations. GOD will reward all of us for every sacrifice we make towards improving our world.
