Benedict XVI: God is foundation of European humanism.

Monasticism, which is responsible for preserving cultural heritage in the Middle Ages, gives us lessons on the search for God.
It is founded on the meditation of Scripture and on work, an antidote to fanaticism and the illusion of radical self-sufficiency, which are the dangers of our time.

Benedict XVI underlined this in his challenging speech Friday afternoon touching on the world of French culture at the College des Bernardins Paris.

"To search for God is to let yourself be found by Him: this is no less necessary today than in times past. A merely positivist culture that dismisses the subject as non-scientific in the question about God, would be - said the Pope – the capitulation of reason, the rejection of the possibility of there being something greater, and therefore, a collapse of humanism..... That which the culture of Europe is based on, the search for God and willingness to listen to Him, remains even today the foundation of all genuine culture."
