Meditation for the Wednesday after Pentecost: Whoever listens to my Father and becomes docile to learn what he teaches, comes to me

MEDITATION FOR THE WEDNESDAY AFTER PENTECOST

Whoever listens to my Father and becomes docile to learn what he teaches, comes to me . (S. John, ch. 6)

1. Consider what honor and what happiness it is for a soul to have God himself for master and preceptor, and to hear and learn from him a science which leads it to Jesus his Savior, and which, for this reason, is called the science of salvation . This science is not acquired through study and work, like the other human sciences; but it is infused and inspired by the Holy Spirit who, through this gift of knowledge , enables us to estimate created goods, and to pass judgment on all created things, not according to their external appearance, inclination or the affection we have for them, not according to the usefulness we can receive from them, but simply and solely according to the relationship they have to God, who made them out of his goodness, and who wants them to always be reported to his glory.
See and examine what progress you have made at this school of the Holy Spirit: what have you learned under such a good Master? Alas! that there is reason to fear that you are still very little instructed in this science of the Saints!

2. Consider the fruits and blessings which this gift of knowledge brings with it ; for as the gift of wisdom elevates the righteous soul to the knowledge of divine things; also, through the gift of knowledge, she does not allow herself to be deceived by the false appearances of good which are encountered in the things of the world: the false splendor of riches, the vain pomp of honors, the deceptive temptations of pleasures do not surprise her. , because it looks at all these things in the truth of what they are, and not in the vanity of what they appear.
Now reflect on yourself, see if your mind is enlightened by this divine science; but be careful, following the warning of Jesus Christ, that your light be darkness ; and remember what the Wise Man said: Whatever doctrine or strength of mind men think they have, all their feelings and all their reasonings are in vain, if they are devoid of the knowledge of God.

3. Consider that, to obtain this gift of knowledge in an excellent degree, one must enter into the sentiment of the holy Apostle, who gloried in knowing nothing other than Jesus Christ , and Jesus Christ crucified, considering it useless and even as detrimental any other science which has no relation or subordination to the science of Jesus crucified; which he called a supereminent science,to which he desired to apply himself with all his heart and all his affection.

PRACTICE

Be assured that there is no true science other than the science of the Saints: ask it of God.
Any other science is swelling, misleading and blind: distrust it wisely.
