Gregory the Great: Pope-evangelist, inspired by a desire to improve the quality of life in Italy at that time, was an advocate of respect and peaceful coexistence among Italians, the Byzantine and the Lombards. Benedict XVI dedicated his catechesis today to Pope Gregory the Great, stressing the tireless work of the pastor who had to minister under extremely difficult political and social circumstances during the end of the sixth century, using the property of the Church justly.
