Another reason is probably the love of money, as you wrote: "Why is the Church in Germany so corrupt? Because they have too much money ..." - because of the - involuntarily - church tax and the high salaries of the bishops and the priests - also in other countries as Austria and Switzerland.
But the responsibility lies also with the Vatican.

Oprah is a very interesting psychological study. If Oprah says “I am slim” keep in mind that she is speaking relatively. Relatively speaking she may be slim compared to her former self which weighed in excess of 250 lbs (114 Kilos). However, compared to a normal sized woman (like one of your news presenters) Oprah would not be slim at all. Even when she was a svelte 200lbs, compared to a normal sized woman, Oprah would still be a plus size.

Now for the psychological part. It has been determined that when Oprah was at her heaviest she also had the highest television ratings that she ever had. When she lost weight and became thin, her TV ratings plummeted.

American women who sat home and watched Oprah were, in many many cases, somewhat on the plump side themselves. Therefore they could easily identify with a fat celebrity on TV. Plus, she had a wonderful personality. She was jovial, well spoken, a gracious host, entertaining and pleasantly fat like themselves. American women loved the whole package. But, when Oprah lost weight, she would then primp for the camera, her clothes were tighter fitting and she struck poses that accented her new “girlish” figure. Unconsciously, American women were now turned off by their beloved formerly fat Oprah. She became a diva and they didn't like it since they were not divas nor unlikely to become divas anytime in the near future.

In theory you are right, @Uncle Joe, in practice one has to say that, as long as money cannot buy you free from death, it cannot buy you happiness or peace of mind. But I fully agree with you that it can buy opportunities for great experiences. That is true.

They are likely telling you this because they don’t have much money themselves. They haven’t tasted the freedom money buys.
