We perhaps cannot avoid the evolution of technology. But we can commit to consciousness evolution. There is a great distinction between just living mechanically and being engaged with life on Earth. Galleries | Misitio
It is impossible to become free from one influence without becoming subject to another. It is necessary to know beforehand which influence is the most profitable. I believe everything good comes from outside myself, offered freely from the spirit of the divine and the balanced nature of Earth.... Icon painting technique | Mary Jane Miller Icons …
How difficult it is to speak to people who, those who value the person they created; they have a precious idea of themselves. The closer we get to absolute being, created energy, and witness of the divine, the more we lose the importance of who we think we are. Icon painting technique | Mary Jane Miller Icons …
TARIFFS will cut down on transport from one nation to another.....Our society needs a better awareness for profoundly understanding the delicate nature of our Planet. We can change our mindset to bring about a more balanced existence between humankind and the natural order, and between continents. We can yield, step back from past behaviors and paradigms to reflect and move towards a responsible lifestyle while on this planet Earth. I did this icon image in 2019 before COVID-19 broke out. The image is prophetic. We had a year of less activity and movements across the oceans. The sea creatures loved it!!Ideas and Progressions | Misitio
Are we learning to hide who we are, the truth of being fully alive? Money and greed will not lead us to the promised land or create peace between us. Fear will take away our capacity to see one another clearly without aversion.
Earth's climate is warming due to our negligence in having too little compassion for the rock we live on. We did not create Earth, we do not sustain Earth, but it is in our power to care for and maintain her well-being. The seven swords piercing Mary's chest represent the seven sinful human passions that cause spiritual torment for us all. Our human greed, lust, sloth, pride, envy, gluttony, and anger are largely the components that have led to our planet's ill health, imbalance, and climate change. Pride is an excessive belief in one's abilities, a failure to see others before themselves. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is the sword that comes from beneath, unseen yet at the center of everything. Gluttony is an inordinate desire to consume more than what one requires. To take more than your share, to not know what is enough, or when to stop. Lust is an inordinate craving for bodily pleasures. The sex trade and our obsession with perverse bodily delight have …More
Mary of Sorrows or in this case, Mary the softener of Evil Hearts tilts her head lovingly towards our planet Earth. Seven swords pierce her heart; indicating the fullness and boundless sorrow, pain and "sickness of heart" that would have been experienced by Mary the Mother of Jesus at His crucifixion.
Mother Earth is represented in our collection of contemporary Icons as a message for us all. We live On Holy Ground in this age of climate change and every age. The change is upon us; every nation is affected, every society feels the consequences, and the ongoing concept is being expressed and developed.
Matter and spirit exist in God as well as in the ancient medium of egg tempera (painting with million-year-old dirt and egg yolk). The practice allows us to slowly witness ourselves as we work and simultaneously watch the image as it arises in form and beauty. Our minds and spirits cannot help but give meaning to what we see around us as the image unfolds.
Internally iconographers believe “beauty will save the world”, the beauty of humankind and our potential to see the divine in all things. I extend an invitation to own more modern catholic icons and consider a painting of the Virgin Mary for your prayer corner or church. Mary Jane Miller icons from San Miguel Allende, Mexico are produced as hope for a more spiritual tomorrow", the beauty of humankind and our potential to see the divine in all things. youtube.com/watch?v=Dl-s7ZxekYE
Was Mary Magdalene a teacher, woman mystic, catholic woman, religious woman, and in the Christ story? The short video is a collection of contemporary Byzantine iconography designed to put women in the narrative of the principal moment in the life of Christ. I believe the bible story does not fully portray the women apostles and followers. Women who love and give to the world are speaking today. Women in sacred art and women's voices begin in Mary Magdalene. youtube.com/watch?v=PD2KguUbweU
Small Icons done in egg tempera, earth pigments and egg yolk. Christ the silent contemplative is portrayed. He arrives with wings because it is suggested He is not in a body, but rather the spiritual presence of knowing with us. amazon.com/s?k=mary+jane+miller&crid=2UMXR1TD5R0JJ
Please, Join the Icon Painting Workshop Even if you do not have a particular bent towards religious imagery, you cannot deny the quality of the pigments and their fascinating character. Simple beauty is intriguing, pushing around small particles of dirt which dry and form unimaginable patterns. I am fascinated by drying sand at the beach, mud puddles, and water, or cracked earth in the desert. These patterns repeat themselves on an icon but in minuscule format. The practice of Iconography is pure delight.
Some might struggle with the idea of Jesus defying gravity and ascending into the heavens, however I certainly have a "Christ beside me as the ground of my being" theology. His personhood transcends our earthly experience and not a childish concept. Ascension Day is a glimpse into eternity, a reminder of our connection with the vast universe around us. It bridges the gap between divinity and humanity. Time and space are real, our relationship with both exceeds the confines of our imagination. From the cosmic to the prosaic - it's time for the feet! Here are some fine examples taken from medieval manuscripts, but the final word must be given to *that* infamous ceiling rose, the one with the dangling plaster toes above the Ascension Chapel at Walsingham...
The Samaritan woman named Photini did not get a Proposal but was Espoused The disciples show up and are terrified by the idea of a possible courtship between these two. The disciples know the dance, you meet a woman, ask her for a drink, meet her family, and close the deal with a meal. They are NOT afraid that Jesus is speaking to a woman. No. They are afraid that Jesus could have taken a Samaritan wife?! They are urgently asking if he has eaten anything. Did he close the deal?” So they ask him, “Rabbi, do you want to eat something?” Jesus confuses the moment more and says, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.”
The priest had a deep unseen voice behind the wall that answered the two men chanting on the stand. God was speaking sacred words and prayers through them to invite us closer. Mass is filled with words of sin and repentance, balanced by joy, unconditional love, and promises of eternal life. I imagined this was the content of the conversation between the interior voice of love and our voices of repentance. It was a childlike reenactment of our relationship with God the Almighty. He is behind a closed door, peaking out at us from time to time to remind us we are loved. I am not Orthodox and do not speak Greek but I like the idea I was imagining.
