Stromboli Parish Priest: "It Was Like Being in Hell"

The volcano on Stromboli island, Italy, erupted very powerfully on 3 July. Two major explosions occurred at around 5:00 PM. The Stromboli has been in almost continuous eruption for the past 2.000 years.

An Italian hiker was killed after being struck by flying debris, a Brazilian wounded.

Stromboli’s parish-priest, Father Giovanni Longo told AgenSir.it (July 3), “It was like being in hell with the rain of fire coming from the sky."

Many people took refuge in the local church [as during a storm, there are no atheists].
