Strange: Vatican Begged German Bishops To Cancel Vote

The Vatican has asked the German bishops not to hold a vote on approving the statutes of their "Synodal Committee" at next week's plenary assembly in Augsburg, writes Domradio.de (17 February).

The "Synodal Committee" is to be a permanent body of bishops and lay church bureaucrats that will make decisions along the lines of an Anglican synod.

Anglican synods are governing bodies made up of representatives of bishops, clergy and laity who have the authority to decide on matters of doctrine, liturgy and other agendas for their respective churches.

The vote had been scheduled. Now the presiding bishop, Georg Bätzing, has informed his fellow bishops to remove the item from the agenda.

The Vatican's intervention is difficult to understand, given that Francis himself had already changed the Ex-Synod of Bishops along Anglican lines.
