The Benedictine apothecary of the Pope's collections
The vast collection of artifacts in the Vatican Museums includes an ancient pharmacy once housed at the monastery of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere, after Pope Pius XI ordered its transfer in 1936, containing spices, jars, and precious items that bear witness to the ancient knowledge of the Benedictine nuns who served the sick of Rome.
