Holy Land: Churches Attacked

Criminals have made several attempts to storm the Melkite Catholic church and the Carmelite monastery of Saint Elias near Haifa (LeSalonBeige.fr, August 6).

In early August, Jewish attackers made several attempts to infiltrate the outer courtyard of St Elias and disrupt a prayer in progress.

Local Catholics then gathered in the monastery courtyard to confront the attackers. To deter further criminal acts, the monastery has installed an iron fence (pictured). It will make it easier to classify those who cross it as attackers.

Jerusalem Cardinal Pizzaballa said that the Israeli Netanyahu regime tolerates aggression against Christians, “The frequency of these aggressions has become something new".
