Terrible Tragedy: On Sunday, two Xaverian Missionary Sisters from Italy - Sister Olga Rachietti, 83, and Sister Lucia Pulici, 76 - were found decapitated and raped in their convent in Bujumbura, the capital of Burundi. The surviving sisters who had discovered them decided to remain in the convent. But in the night from Sunday to Monday they were woken up by noises and screams. When help arrived they found Sister Bernardetta Boggian, 79, on her bed stabbed to death. According to the diocese of Parma, Italy, the events were the tragic outcome of an armed robbery by a mentally unbalanced person.

Deceased: On September 5th, the giant of German Protestant theology, Wolfhart Pannenberg, has died in the age of 85. Although he was wrong in many key issues of theology he was known for his defense of marriage and Jesus' bodily resurrection. He held visiting professorships at Harvard and the University of Chicago. Pannenberg was an outspoken critic of the approval of homosex relations by the Evangelical Church in Germany. He stated that a church which approves of homosexual practice is no longer a true church. He returned his German Order of Merit after the decoration was awarded to a lesbian activist. Pannenberg’s death was almost completely ignored in his native Germany.

New Shape With Old Form: St Walburge’s, the biggest church in Preston, England, Lancaster diocese, was built in 1847 and its spire can be seen on the skyline for miles around. Only month ago it was doomed to be closed down. But now the old-rite Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest has decided to take over the church by offering the Traditional Latin Mass seven days a week. Lancaster Bishop Michael Campbell is quoted by saying: “There are some voices who tell me that the presence of the Catholic Church in inner Preston is finished. I cannot agree. We need to be here in a new shape and form and at the same time to strengthen our missionary presence and vitality.”

Little Known Fact: Irishcentral.com has published top ten little known facts about Ireland. One regards Mass attendance. In the last 1990s 64% of Irish Catholic attended mass, on a weekly basis. Now that figure has dropped to 42.1%, according the Catholic Bishop’s report. In comparison, in the United States, according to Georgetown University, mass attendance stands at 24%.
