France: Vicar General Dismissed

Bayeux-Lisieux Bishop Jacques Habert has announced that he has asked his vicar general Laurent Lair to resign from his post and leave the diocese with effect from 3 November.

A canonical enquiry will have to decide on the priest's conduct, who "admits to having committed acts contrary to his ecclesiastical obligations."

Father Laurent Berthout, the episcopal delegate for information, clarified that Lair has not been accused of any criminal acts, neither pedophilia nor sexual or spiritual abuse.

Lair was appointed vicar general in June 2021 and was previously a parish priest. A decision is expected in a few months.
