More Suicides: Paglia Plays Dirty

The Pontifical Academy Against Life claimed on April 24 that Archbishop Paglia was misunderstood when he described helping people to commit suicide as something that could be the “greatest possible common good”.

Now, Paglia says that he opposes euthanasia and suicide, BUT agrees with the Italian Constitutional Court which wants to "allow" assisted suicide.

For Paglia "a ‘legal mediation' (certainly not a moral one)" is acceptable whereby assisted suicide is considered a crime, but nevertheless "legal".

This is not the first time that Paglia has used tactics from the propaganda playbook:
1. Produce a scandal by propagating evil.
2. Appease the scandal by claiming to have been "misunderstood".
3. Reinforce the evil with fraudulent distinctions.
4. Thus accustom the public to evil.

Providence Bishop Bishop Thomas Tobin, USA, called Paglia's comments on Twitter.com "wrong and harmful," . "The teaching of the Church is clear: Euthanasia is 'morally unacceptable.' Period."

Eventually, this fellow and his colleagues will confront the 'trump card' - Eternal Life, and I pity them if they do not repent before that card is played.

Archbishop Paglia affirms his solid Modernist credentials: “First of all, I would like to point out that the Catholic Church does not have a package of prêt-à-porter truths, prepackaged, as if it were a dispenser of pills of truth. Theological thought evolves in history, in dialogue with the Magisterium and with the experience of the people of God (sensus fidei fidelium), in a dynamic of mutual …More

This is the exact same argument that Ted Kennedy, Joe Biden, and Robert Drinan SJ used to make about abortion. “Personally opposed,” but in support of Roe v Wade, and, perhaps, some legal limits. Of course, by the ‘90s, they came to oppose any limit on abortion, including partial birth abortions. The Vatican has returned to pretty much all of the bad policies of the ‘70s.
