Already in 2015: The Vatican Had 1.5 Billion (!) Unfunded Pension Liability

The Vatican's pension fund already had an unfunded liability of almost €1.5 billion in 2015, reports the Substack.com-Account The Pillar (April 7).

The problem was flagged a decade ago by the Secretariat for the Economy, then headed by Cardinal Pell. Measures have been proposed back then, but nothing (sic) has been done. As a result, the situation has deteriorated.

It is not known how much the unfunded liability has grown during Francis' pontificate.

Given the broader financial crisis of the Holy See, there are serious doubts about the Vatican's ability to pay pensions.
