In the case of KGB defector Anatoliy Golitsyn, we have a man who was thoroughly maligned in the press and by the media. In the early 1980s he wrote a book about a coming deceptive liberalization in the USSR. And here is the thing nobody can dispute: Golitsyn’s 1984 predictions about the coming of a liberal Soviet leader came true. Even more impressive, his predictions about the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact, with the Communist Party giving up power, also came true. Golitsyn warned that if the West was fooled by the false liberalization in Russia, the post-Cold War era would be one of Western disarmament.
