Leo XIV Appoints Immoral Theologian As President of Academy for Life

Leo XIV has appointed Monsignor Renzo Pegoraro, 65, as President of the Pontifical Academy for Life on May 27.

Monsignor Pegoraro had previously been serving as chancellor since 2011 of the same Academy. He replaces Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, 80, a homosexual activist and his former boss, who was president from 2016.

In 2022, Monsignor Pegoraro told Wsj.com that artificial contraception, which is intrinsically evil, might be permissible. He used the excuse of "a conflict between the need to avoid pregnancy for medical reasons and the preservation of a couple’s sex life."

"The letter of the law can change, but not to invalidate it; rather, to deepen its meaning and promote the values at stake," he said.

Rocca quotes Msgr. Renzo Pegoraro, the chancellor of the PAV, who suggested that the possibility of “transmission of life” in the marital act may be in conflict with “other values worth protecting.” He argued that contraception may be permissible “in the case of a conflict between the need to avoid pregnancy for medical reasons and the preservation of a couple’s sex life.” -LifeSiteNews

explainCombination birth control pills prevent the ovaries from releasing an egg. They also slow an egg's progress through the fallopian tubes, thicken cervical mucus and thin the lining of the uterus, called the endometrium. All these actions help keep sperm from joining the egg.
